Why Are Rice Crispy Treats So Good With Coffee?
Share
Hear us out. Rice crispy treats probably aren't the first thing that comes to mind when you think about what to eat with your morning coffee. A croissant? Sure. A muffin? Obviously. But a giant, soft and gooey marshmallow Crispycake? We think it deserves a spot in the conversation.
Considering we've created Crispycakes inspired by espresso, café mocha, cinnamon, chocolate, cookies, and plenty of other flavors that already seem right at home next to a cup of coffee, maybe the pairing isn't quite as strange as it sounds.
Sweet + Coffee Is Pretty Hard to Beat
There's a reason every coffee shop has a pastry case. Coffee has that deep, roasted flavor that works really well with something sweet, especially flavors like vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon, caramel, and marshmallow.
That's where Crispycakes come in. Our Crispycakes are thick, soft and gooey gourmet rice crispy treats made with plenty of marshmallow and available in dozens of different flavors. They're definitely dessert, but that hasn't stopped us from discovering that quite a few of those flavors taste ridiculously good alongside coffee. Especially if you're the kind of person who considers a cookie an acceptable breakfast. We support you.
Some Crispycake Flavors Were Basically Made for This
If we're pairing Crispycakes with coffee, Espresso is the obvious place to start. Our Espresso Crispycake combines that soft, marshmallowy texture with coffee flavor, so having it with an actual cup of coffee feels almost inevitable.
Then there's Café Mocha, which brings coffee and chocolate together. Since mocha is already one of the great coffee-and-dessert combinations, putting those flavors into a Crispycake just makes sense. But you definitely don't need a coffee-flavored Crispycake to make this work.
Toasted Cinnamon is another one we'd happily eat with a morning cup. There's something about cinnamon and coffee that immediately feels cozy, especially once fall weather finally decides to show up. And if you're drinking something dark and strong, Cookies & Cream gives you that sweet cookie and marshmallow contrast that works surprisingly well.
So, What Kind of Coffee Goes With a Crispycake?
If you drink black coffee or espresso, we'd pair it with something sweeter like Cookies & Cream, Plain & Sweet, or Café Mocha. The bitterness of the coffee helps balance all that gooey marshmallow sweetness.
If you're a latte or cappuccino person, Espresso and Toasted Cinnamon are great choices because those flavors already feel like they belong in a coffee shop. Prefer iced coffee or cold brew? You have plenty of options there too, and we wouldn't even rule out something like Fruity Crispies if you like a little sweet fruity flavor alongside your coffee.
And since it's officially pumpkin spice season, there's one pairing that's almost too obvious to mention: Pumpkin Spice Crispycake and a pumpkin spice latte. We're not going to overthink that one.
Does This Mean Crispycakes Are Breakfast?
Okay, probably not. We make giant gourmet marshmallow treats, so we're not going to suddenly pretend they're a balanced breakfast.
But are we going to tell you that you can't have part of a Crispycake with your Saturday morning coffee? Absolutely not.
One of the nice things about the size of a Crispycake is that you can cut off as much as you want and save the rest for later. A few bites alongside a hot cup of coffee can hit that same sweet spot as a pastry or cookie. Or you can eat the whole thing. We're staying out of it.
Your Coffee Break Might Need a Crispycake
We've always talked about Crispycakes as desserts, gifts, snacks, and nostalgic treats, but sometimes the best way to enjoy one is also the simplest. Make your favorite coffee, open a Crispycake, and take five minutes where nobody bothers you.
That's it.
And if you happen to discover that Cookies & Cream and coffee is an unexpectedly fantastic combination, we'd love to say we told you so.
Because apparently the answer to "What goes well with coffee?" might just be a giant, soft and gooey rice crispy treat.
