I Wasn't Expecting This
Share
A few days ago, I posted a video talking about The Crispery, how my parents own the company, and how my wife Rebecca and I have become involved in helping grow the business online.
I honestly didn't think much of it when I hit "post."
I've talked about The Crispery before, but I had never really shared the whole story publicly. To me, it's just normal life. My parents have been making giant gourmet Crispycakes for years, and helping them has gradually become a bigger and bigger part of my life. It's something I think about every day, so I sometimes forget that most people have no idea what we've been building over here.
What happened after the video went live completely caught me off guard.
Seeing Familiar Names Again
The best part wasn't the views or the comments. It was the names.
Over the next few days, orders started coming in from childhood friends, parents of childhood friends, former coworkers, and people I haven't spoken to in years. Every time Rebecca and I printed shipping labels, we'd find another familiar name and immediately stop what we were doing to talk about it.
"Wow, I haven't thought about them in forever."
"I can't believe they placed an order."
"Wait... is this the same person we grew up with?"
It was honestly pretty emotional.
Running an online business can sometimes feel disconnected. You spend so much time thinking about inventory, shipping supplies, website updates, and fulfillment that you forget there are actual people behind every order. This week was a reminder that there are a lot of people cheering us on, and that means more than I can properly put into words.
The Tasty Trio Strikes Again!
One thing that made us laugh was how many people ordered the exact same thing.
Without question, the star of the week was our Tasty Trio bundle.
For anyone who hasn't tried it, the Tasty Trio includes S'Mores, Banana Pudding, and Cookies & Cream—three of our most popular Crispycake flavors and three flavors that seem to have developed a fan club of their own.
We've been fighting to keep this bundle in stock for months. Every time we think we've finally figured out how much inventory to set aside, it sells out again. We ask the bakery for more. It sells out. We ask for even more. It sells out again.
Apparently all of you decided to prove that trend isn't changing anytime soon.
At this point, I think the Tasty Trio might be impossible to keep in stock.
A Reminder of Why We Do This
One thing I've learned while helping run the online side of The Crispery is that people aren't just buying dessert.
They're buying something they can share with their family. Something nostalgic. Something that reminds them of being a kid. Something that feels a little different than what they can grab off a shelf at a convenience store.
When orders come in from complete strangers, that's exciting.
When they come from people who have known you for decades, it's something else entirely.
It reminds you that small businesses don't survive because of marketing campaigns or algorithms. They survive because people choose to support them.
Thank You!
So if you watched the video, left a comment, shared it with a friend, or placed an order, thank you.
Thank you for supporting my parents.
Thank you for supporting our family.
And thank you for helping us continue to grow this strange little business that somehow went from supplying stores around the country to shipping Crispycakes directly to customers all over the United States.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go check whether we still have any Tasty Trios left.
